| A comprehensive
accident data system is a basic prerequisite
for any effective road safety initiative to
be undertaken. Each and every agency involved
in road safety should have a clear understanding
of the nature, scale and distribution pattern
of the road accident problem it seeks to address.
To achieve this, it is necessary to have an
accident database derived from the systematic
reporting of accidents and causalities.
The RSC
recognizes that the database is not a complete
nor entirely accurate record of all road accidents
in Bangladesh and it is taking steps to address
this issue. In this regard this report may
lack in fulfilling the legitimate desires
of all active partners in road safety activities.
Any deficiency in the report may be pointed
out and suggestions for future guidance are
always welcome by the RSC.
The initiative of producing
an annual road traffic accident report of
this scope will however be considered successful
if it contributes something to enabling planners,
policy makers, researchers, stakeholders and
specialists engaged in various fields of our
national development activities, to target
their road safety improvement initiatives
by identifying and focusing on those aspects
of road safety which are of the gravest concern.
